2007 Mule Deer Hunt

October 23rd, 2007 by Devin Lewis

I just returned late last night from my annual deer hunting trip here in Southern Utah. Each year, I go hunting with my dad and a few of my brothers in the Pine Valley Mountains, which are located in the southwestern corner of Utah. Unfortunately, I came away empty handed this year despite having great weather and a few opportunities at bucks.

But aside from the hunting woes, it was a great weekend where i was just able to relax and enjoy the outdoors. I was able to take a few quick pictures of camp while i was up there, I will post them below.

Canvas Wall Tent from Cylinder Stoves

We set up a 15′x21′ canvas wall tent for camp, which was great but maybe just a tad bit too small for the seven people we had in camp. Overall, it worked great, despite having to retrofit a 15′ A-Frame to a 21′ Tent. We had to do this because in previous years, we would use a 15′x15′ wall tent, and have just left the tent frame up in the mountains stashed in a tree. So this year we decided to bring a larger tent but forgot to bring more frame pieces. Oh and by the way, the wall tent and tent frame were both manufactured by Cylinder Stoves.

Hunter Stove from Cylinder Stoves

We also were using a stove from Cylinder Stoves. The size shown is the Hunter Model, which worked fine but was maybe just a tad bit too small for a 15′x21′ wall tent. It looks old and worn because it is, we also leave the stove up in the mountain in our stash which saves us from having to pack it in each year. And as you can see, camp was quite messy when this photo was taken.

Overall, it was a great trip despite only bagging one deer between all of us. Sometimes its just nice to get out and and away from life and enjoy the time alone.
