A-Frame: One of the two most popular styles of wall tent frames. This frame style is different from the internal frame in that most of the frame pieces are found on the outside of the tent instead of on the inside. With this frame style, the ridge pole is strengthened by an adjustable truss cable. The ridge pole extends from one end of the tent to the other and goes on the inside of the tent. This ridge pole is supported by frame legs found on each end of the tent. The tent is also held up by sidewall poles, which are about 5’ in height and line both sides of the tent. Aluminum frame: Aluminum is one of the main materials used in making tent frames. Using this material allows the tent frames to be lighter and easier to transport. Aluminum is not quite as strong as galvanized steel, but it still is sturdy enough to be used in most situations.
Angle Kit: An angle kit is a group of angles that are made for people who prefer to build their own frames using 1” EMT conduit.
Double rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A double rafter tent frame has a total of four rafters, it gets its name from only having two rafters on the inside of the frame, the two outside rafters are not counted. This type of frame is also known as a four rafter frame.
EMT: EMT conduit is unthreaded steel raceway made of galvanized steel. Steel Thinwall EMT conduit is easy to cut and lightweight. People often buy just an angle kit and then cut the remainder of their tent frame out of this material.
Five Rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A five rafter tent frame has a total of five rafters, it gets its name from the total number of rafters found on the tent frame. This type of frame is also known as a triple rafter frame.
Four Rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A four rafter tent frame has a total of four rafters, it gets its name from the total number of rafters found on the tent frame. This type of frame is also known as a double rafter frame.
Galvanized: Galvanized steel helps prevent rust and extends the life of the steel. Many wall tent frames are made out of galvanized steel.
Internal Frame: This is probably the most popular style of tent frames available. The internal frame is just that, internal. The entire frame goes on the inside of the tent and the frame is shaped just like your tent. This frame style is very sturdy, but also heavier than other styles. Leg pole: On an A-Frame, this is the piece of frame that holds up the ridge pole, there are four of them total, two on each end of the ridge pole. On an internal frame, these are the poles that line the sidewall of the tent.
Log Frame: A log frame is a frame built out of wood or logs. It is usually constructed in the woods and then left there. This is the cheapest way to supply a frame for your wall tent.
Rafter pole: Only internal frames have rafter poles. The rafter pole is the piece of frame that extends from the sidewall of the tent up to the roof at an angle.
Ridge pole: all styles of frames have a ridge pole. This is the piece of frame that extends the length of the tent and is also the highest point of the frame.
Sidewall pole: Only A-Frames have sidewall poles. These are usually 5’ in height and extend the length of the tent sidewall.
Single rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A single rafter tent frame has a total of three rafters, it gets its name from only having one rafter on the inside of the frame, the two outside rafters are not counted. This type of frame is also known as a three rafter frame.
Steel Frame: Most tent frames are made from steel, usually galvanized. This is the strongest type of material for a frame, but it is also the heaviest.
Three Rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A three rafter tent frame has a total of three rafters, it gets its name from the total number of rafters found on the tent frame. This type of frame is also known as a single rafter frame.
Triple rafter: This term describes how many rafters are in a certain wall tent. A triple rafter tent frame has a total of five rafters, it gets its name from only having three rafters on the inside of the frame, the two outside rafters are not counted. This type of frame is also known as a five rafter frame.
Truss cable: This is used on A-Frames. It is a cable that extends the whole length of the ridge pole, giving it added strength and support.
