Products Questions:
Question:
What is the difference between a finished size and cut size?
Answers:
-
Finished size refers to the size of the Wall Tent after manufacturing is complete. Cut size refers to the size of the material that will be used to make the Wall Tent. For example, our sizes for Wall Tents represent the cut size, not the finished size. So, a 12’x12’ Wall Tent is actually 11' 7"x11’ 7" finished size. Make sure you take into consideration the finished size of your Wall Tent before you make or purchase a frame for your Wall Tent.
Question:
What kind of heating devices can I use in this tent?
Answers:
-
We recommend using a wood burning stove, wood burns hotter and drier than propane. It smells better, feels better and can be safer. However a propane heat would be just fine in a wall tent. We offer wood stoves that are available in lightweight designs for those who pack in and in heavier gauge steel for those who prefer it. These stoves are made specifically for tents.
Question:
What if I want to build a platform or already have a platform made for a tent? How do I make sure the tent will fit?
Answers:
-
We recommend not building a platform for your tent until you get the actual tent and measure it. The sizes provided are cut size, not finish size so it will differ on what the actual measurements are. We also recommend you build the platform to the same width as the frame. This will ensure the rain water run downs the roof over the eaves and prevents any water from puddling on the platform and coming inside the tent. Also place the tent frame flush with the back of the platform to prevent rain water from coming in from the back.
Question:
What is the proper care of a canvas tent?
Answers:
-
Here are a few things we recommend to ensure your tent lasts as long as possible: Never store a damp or wet canvas tent. Air it out before you pack it away which will prevent mildew from getting into the fibers of your tent. If you find that your canvas wall tent has some mildew, try mixing a cup of bleach into about 10 liters of water and wash the affected area (do not wash your entire tent with this mixture, just the mildew), rinse the bleach mix off thoroughly and dry your tent before storing. you can clean your tent fairly easily. If you need to clean your tent we recommend you use a soft brush or broom to get off any dirt, then use mild detergents or cleaners to give your tent a general cleaning. Things like tree sap and other difficult to remove grime may require a bit of extra scrubbing to get off your tent. Things with sharp edges or that can possibly snag into your tent, like scouring pads or wire brushes should not be used to scrub out problem areas on your tent. Once your tent is cleaned, be sure to let it thoroughly dry out before putting back into storage. When storing your tent make sure it is completely DRY before storing. The zippers should be open when storing your tent and any Velcro flaps should be closed. Storing your wall tent in the bag provide with your canvas wall tent is always best. If your bag has some damage on it you should try to repair or replace the bag. Keeping the tent out of the elements in storage is best and that includes using something that will keep the elements, bugs and other problems that may damage your wall tent out. Canvas wall tents are fairly low maintenance if you look after them and store them properly. The canvas in your wall tent is pre-shrunk, but there is still some potential shrinkage over time with a canvas wall tent. This shrinkage can cause extra strain on the zipper for your tent if you’re using a steel or aluminum internal frame. The easiest way to prevent wrecking the zipper is to trim the roof trusses a couple inches if you notice the zipper getting a bit tougher to close or the tent fitting a bit too snug on the frame. Using a rain fly or tarp on your tent helps keep UV rays from deteriorating the canvas and if you’re in snowy conditions it usually helps keep the snow load down as the snow slides off the tent easier with a fly or tarp on it.
Question:
Does this tent come with a frame?
Answers:
-
No, you will need to purchase the tent frame separately.
Question:
Does this tent come with everything needed to set it up and use immediately?
Answers:
-
No, this tent does not come with everything to use it immediately. You will need to purchase a frame if you do not have one as well as stakes. We also recommend buying a fly to protect your canvas and prolong its life.
Question:
What is the benefit of a second stovejack?
Answers:
-
A 2nd stovejack is used when you want to add a second stove in your tent for heating. It is mainly used on larger tents or in extreme weather conditions.
Question:
What is the benefit of a second door?
Answers:
-
A second door can be very nice for ventilation in your tent on hot summer days. Also it is highly recommended to add a second door to your Wall Tent if you choose a sewn in floor for ease of set up with your internal frame.
Question:
How well does this tent handle snow and how can I help ensure my tent does not get ruined by the snow or elements?
Answers:
-
Wall tents handle very well in the snow however they are not made to set up in snow country and go off and leave them for any length of time. The snow on the roof needs to be wiped off with a broom from time to time so the snow load does not get too heavy for the frame. We highly recommend a fly to help with the snow load on your tent because if it is a dry snow it will most likely slide off your tent with a fly. But a heavy, wet snow will collapse a wall tent pretty quick, so keep a close eye on the conditions when it starts to snow. We recommend not letting more than a couple of inches stick to the roof before brushing it off.
Question:
What is a "blend" tent?
Answers:
-
A Blend tent†is recommended for individuals who prefer lightweight hunting tents. Canvas tent roof and relite walls (synthetic material). Saves approximately 40% in weight from standard 10.1 oz hunting canvas tents. Blends lighter weight makes larger hunting tents much easier to transport, set up and take down.
